Obscurance-based Volume Rendering Framework

چکیده
Obscurances, from which ambient occlusion is a particular case, is a technology that produces natural-looking lighting effects in a faster way than global illumination. Its application in volume visualization is of special interest since it permits us to generate a high quality rendering at a low cost. In this paper, we propose an obscurancebased framework that allows us to obtain realistic and illustrative volume visualizations in an interactive manner. Obscurances can include color bleeding effects without additional cost. Moreover, we obtain a saliency map from the gradient of obscurances and we show its application to enhance volume visualization and to select the most

Line-Sweep Ambient Obscurance
Screen-space ambient occlusion and obscurance have become established methods for rendering global illumination effects in real-time applications. While they have seen a steady line of refinements, their computational complexity has remained largely unchanged and either undersampling artefacts or too high render times limit their scalability. In this paper we show how the fundamentally quadrati...
متن کاملSegmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering
Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...
متن کاملA Hybrid Rendering Framework for the Real-time Manipulation of Volume and Surface Models
Stemmed from classical computer graphics research, volume visualization has been steadily growing into an important research field in the last 2 decades. This paper presents a hybrid rendering framework which integrates volume and surface models for real-time simulation. It focuses on improving the flexibility of the classic Scene Graph structure and the interactive rate of the Direct Volume Re...
متن کاملObscurances for ray-tracing
We present a powerful method to create realistic-looking pictures of scenes with objects that have diffuse and non-diffuse properties. The method recreates the obscurances technique, introduced some years ago, with a new approach based on ray-tracing. The first version of the obscurances technique was used only for diffuse environments. It is already working successfully in some widely known vi...
متن کاملExpressive Volume Rendering
Accurately and automatically conveying the structure of a volume model is a problem not fully solved by existing volume rendering approaches. Physics-based volume rendering approaches create images that may match the appearance of translucent materials in nature, but may not embody important structural details. Transfer function approaches allow flexible design of the volume appearance, but gen...
